Smart or Wise – or maybe a little of both
Each of us is continuing to try to put things together
on a regular, systematic basis in which to make our
system work in an efficient manner. Are we doing
this? Some yes and some no. I found for myself,
that I was continuing to look at this article and that
email as well as any and all of the blogs that I could.
I know this was a hit and miss situation and I found
that my tendency was to become overwhelmed with too
many ideas and areas in which to look and digest. When
I first started in the internet marketing arena, I found that
there was nothing that I couldn’t read or look at but soon
found that overload of material seemed to overtake me
and my ability to wonder what to do next and in which
area should I look next.
Instead of feeling organized, I was frustrated with lack of any
actual system to separate all the different inputs of material.
I finally realized that there was no way that I could read and
put all the material together in one organized manner. So I
decided the only way to put things on my side of the fence was
to take one or two programs and learn them well and concentrate
on just these and not let all the other distractions of emails and
ads get in my way of concentration. Now I thoroughly enjoy the
whole process of being able to involve other things but only after
I had mastered the original two.
This reminds me of a story about an Archer.
After winning many archery contests, a young and boastful
champion wanted to add another feather to his cap. Everyone
had told him that he was almost the best archer in the land, and
that only one person could beat him. So he decided to challenge
that master to a contest. When he saw the frail old man come onto
the field, he almost changed his mind. But he had vowed to prove
that he was the best.
The two stood side by side, and the young man smiled confidently at
the older man. Then he proceeded to demonstrate remarkable
technical proficiency by hitting a distant bull’s eye on his first try,
and then splitting that arrow with his second shot.
“There,” he said to the old master, “see if you can match that!”
Unconcerned, the master did not draw his bow, but instead
motioned for the young archer to follow him up the mountain
path. Curious, the champion followed. All the observers
dutifully followed along. They walked up the mountain trail
for a long while until they reached a deep ravine spanned by a
single thin log high above a raging river.
Calmly stepping out onto the log, the master picked a far away
tree, drew his bow, and fired a clean, direct hit. “Now it is your
turn.” he said as he gracefully stepped back onto safe ground.
Staring with terror into the ravine, the young man could not
force himself to step onto the log, much less shoot at a target.
“You have much skill with your bow,” the master said, sensing
the challenger’s fear, “but you have little skill with the mind
that lets loose the shot.”
Perhaps you and I both need to work on our mental game. That
does not mean we have to become smarter, but rather wiser,
knowing when to try things and when to let them go. Frank
Garafola says: “the difference between a smart man and a wise
man, is that a smart man knows what to say, a wise man knows
whether or not to say it.” This can be carried over into the
internet marketing arena with a little different variation. A
wise man or woman knows when it is time to proportion
your time to handle only that which you can handle in a certain
period of time. Just work with the material that you can
master and the other things will fall into place.
When you are beginning or even have been into the internet
marketing arena, there is still one program that stands out in
its ability to help you right out of the gate and allows you
to master the system that in turn can be used with any other
program or company. Look over to the right and peek into
the program and what it can do for you. I have been with many
other programs and still am but my introduction was well
founded with this program because it gave me a foundation
in which to grow and a system that has been extremely
successful, not only for me but for many others. It can be used
with any other company or program because it was designed
